Space Age sideboard by Luigi Sormani, Italy 1960

[SOLD] Typical Space Age design from the Italian furniture company Sormani. Luigi Sormani designed this handsome sideboard in the 1960's: the era of Space Age design triggered by the first space mission. This entirely new and exciting development had it's impact on movies, tv-series, fashion and advertising media.

This very elegant piece of design history offers ample storage with it's two drawers and two spacious compartments. We like to call it a 'room friendly sized cabinet' with a lenght of 114cm it can easily fit into a small hallway or bedroom. Finished in walnut and white laquered wood with beautifully shaped doorgrips in moulded plastic. A true quality piece as one may expect from Sormani.

About Sormani

Luigi Sormani founded the company in Arosio in 1961. The young Luigi did not believe that the artisan production, could satisfy the desire for industrialization and modernity that pervaded Italy after the war. His dream was to be able to produce furniture that could be a revolution in the way Italians lived. With Sormani SpA, he started one of the most pioneering adventures of the second half of the 20th century. Between a spirit of innovation and a vision of the future, the first ten years of the company represent a major transformation in the panorama of furniture, which was still linked to solid walnut furniture and to handcrafted models. Sormani founded the first fully automated furniture factory, equipped with the most advanced machinery for the time.

This small sideboard is in very good condition. It only bears some very light age related wear (see photos). Very solid and original. A rare item!
