Set of tables B9 + B10 by Marcel Breuer for Knoll, 1970
[SOLD] Among his first designs during the Bauhaus period Marcel Breuer designed in 1925/26 a (side) table collection, named the B9 and B10 with chromed tubular frame and formica table tops. These coffee tables by Marcel Breuer became part of the Thonet collection in 1930/31. Marcel Breuer however also worked closely with Gavina (IT) during that period. After WOII Gavina bought the production rights from Thonet. In 1968 Knoll bought the Gavina group, this brought all of Gavina’s (and Breuer’s) designs into the Knoll catalogue.
This set is also known as 'Laccio' with later productions. In all probability it is a Gavina (1961-1968) or an early Knoll production (1969-1975) since it is not marked in the frame, as Knoll did with later items. Gavina often used an adhesive label on the frame that in time wears off. It has all the important hallmarks: the correct corner finishes of the laminate tops, underside of the table tops and all original bolts.
The condition is very good with some very light scratches on the tops and pretty flawless chrome. Cleaned and polished.
