Provincial three post Turner chair in beech, ca. 1890
[SOLD] All original beech wood bobbin turned Turner chair with original rush seat, dating from ca. 1890.
There were two forms of Turner chairs: triangular or “three-post”, and square or “four-post”. The three-post form appears to be the earlier of the two. It also stood more steadily on an uneven floor and was thus well suited to farmhouses.
This survivor is of great quality: original and sturdy with an amazing patina from golden brown to almost black. Still looking very smart after 130 years!
Imagine it in combination with crisp midcentury modern design. Stunning!
