Lounge chair Mars by Pierre Guariche, 1966

[SOLD] Typical Space Age lounge chair, model 'Mars' by the Belgian designer Pierre Guariche for Meurop. This is the first edition with the round base, manufactured only from 1965 to 1967.
 
The Mars is part of the Starlook Ultralight series: Polaris, Luna, Mars and Jupiter. They all have one design element in common: a soft rounded shape. Guariche was inspired by the global race for space that started in the sixties with missions to the moon.
 
Guariche (1926 - 1995) started as one of the preferred designers for Meurop and finally became their design director.
 
The shell is made of a metal core covered in PU foam and finished in grained leatherette with double stitching. Heavy metal swivel base with a black ABS plastic cover.
