Lounge chair Lotus by Rob Parry, Gelderland 1960
[SOLD] The Lotus lounge chair is one of the most recognisable designs of Dutch designer Rob Parry for Gelderland.
This particular example is finished in warm teak wood with brown/liver coloured leather: a stunning combination that makes this example even more desirable!
The leather is still supple and there is no discolourisation, no rips or cracks. Some light wear to the tip of one arm rest (see photo). Leather straps and springs in excellent condition, hence the great comfort of this chair.
Rob Parry (1925) is a well-known Dutch designer of industrial design. Gerrit Rietveld was one of his teachers. Characteristic for his style are the elegant lines and the way materials have been applied.
Parry designed more than 40 different models of chairs. Between 1950 and 1952 he designed the Lotus. It is an airy, almost linear design with wooden side panels and a thin metal tube characteristic of that time. The great seating comfort was created by the use of springs and webbing.
