Lounge chair Congo by Theo Ruth for Artifort, 1952
The Congo chair is a fine example of playful design from the '50s.
This chair was designed by Theo Ruth in 1952 for Artifort. Ruth was inspired by African chairs: this chair consists of two separate parts that keep each other in perfect and firm balance and can easily be taken apart. The seat offers a lot of comfort due to the spring suspension that Artifort incorporated into their chairs at that time. A true eye catcher with its organically shaped legs in dark oak and professionally re-upholstered in a fine dark blue velvet with yellow/gold pin stripes and dito buttons.
In very good to excellent condition with some sympathetic wear to the oak feet (see photo's).
