Freestanding storage unit by Marcel Dumas for Roche Bobois, 1960s

In France, designer Michel Dumas developed a modular shelving system for Roche Bobois that showed transparency and structural rhythm.

Produced during the late 1960s, his designs utilised smoked plexiglass and polished metal uprights to create a balanced composition. The design relied on precision-bent acrylic to form shelves and compartments with a strong architectural presence. As postwar design evolved, this system moved away from traditional heavy wood toward lightweight, industrial and Space Age inspired materials. This combination of metal and acrylic transformed a storage solution into a refined example of European modernism. These units represent a period when new materials allowed furniture to become transparent while remaining functionally essential.

They are free standing and can also be used as room divider.

In very good condition. Cleaned and polished. Just some user scratches on the shelving.
